(Funny aside. It does not make any sense to Kassidy why the Green Lantern is called Green Lantern when his power comes from his ring. I'm like, "Well, he has to charge his ring in a green lantern". This explanation just gets a blank stare. I'm with her. It's pretty freaking dumb that he's named after the thing that powers the ring and not the ring itself. We don't call cars "combustion engines". We call them cars. Comics!?!)

Most of these were drawn back in March around Kassidy's 7th birthday. She is still on a pretty big super hero kick. Right now she is into the Huntress and all things X-Men.

Kitty and the X-Men show in only a few panels of the Dazzler comic that Kassidy got a couple of weeks ago but they made a strong impact. Compound that with watching the new Wolverine and the X-Men cartoon and Kassidy has been inspired to draw a lot of mutants.

We picked up an issue of Wonder Girl for fifty cents at a comic book shop and Kassidy was inspired to have her fight Wonder Woman. Daddy helped by writing in the words.

The Enchantress versus Dazzler by Kassidy 1/18/9.

Earlier this week I took the kids with me to some comic shops. One of the shops had several boxes of old comics for a buck a piece so we grabbed a small stack. One of the books was Dazzler #2 from 1981. Kassidy likes it a lot. Dazzler is a singer and wears roller skates so that pretty much covers everything a six year old girl needs in a superhero.

And here is a look at the old comic that inspired it all. It's a shame they don't make superhero comics for girls. (Well, allegedly, they make one but I can't find it anywhere.)

Kassidy thinks she is a fashion designer and likes to make her own catalog books. She draws pages and pages of dresses, pants, shirts, accessories etc. These are some samples from a recent book I salvaged from her bedroom. I like the swirly patterns and should steal them for my own art.

Drawn by Kassidy (age 6) in October 2008. What I find interesting about this is that Kassidy shows that she is spinning by showing the back of the dancer. This is the first time I've seen her use this trick. I'm also just amazed by the composition and design. It has a strength energy to it that I would have to spend a lot of time trying to capture. Kids get that kind of thing naturally because they are not burdened by any kind of commitment to trying to nail the anatomy.

Hey pals. It's me, Daddy Smith. This blog is not about me though. A while back I started an art gallery for my daughter Kassidy over at ComicSpace. Then, we moved and got busy etc. etc. and I failed to update it. Now, my youngest daughter Alana is starting to draw as well. I've started this blog to keep up with their artistic adventures. No offense to ComicSpace but blogger is just easier and faster to use. I'll start posting their art and fixing up the template on this blog soon. Come back soon and check it out.
